Skyfield Privacy Policy

Last updated: 13 June 2026

Skyfield is a weather app made by Atsumi Labs LLC. It is built to be private by default: there are no accounts, we don’t sell your data, and we collect as little as possible. This policy explains what Skyfield accesses and why.

Location

Why we use it. With your permission, Skyfield uses your device location to fetch the forecast, current conditions, radar, and alerts for exactly where you are. This is the core function of the app.

How it’s handled. Your coordinates are used to request weather data from the U.S. National Weather Service and related public weather services. We do not sell your location, use it to advertise to you, or build a profile of your movements. You can also skip location entirely and search for places by name instead.

Saved places. Any locations you save, your chosen units, and app preferences are stored on your device so the app remembers them between visits.

Third-party weather services

To show you weather, Skyfield makes requests to public/free services including the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS), RainViewer (radar imagery), a public map basemap provider, and an open geocoding service for place search. When your app contacts these services, your IP address and the coordinates being requested are visible to them as part of a normal network request, subject to their own policies. Skyfield does not share your identity with them — it has no identity to share.

Analytics & crash data

If Skyfield includes basic, privacy-respecting analytics or crash reporting, it is used only to understand aggregate usage and to fix bugs, and is never used to identify you personally. Where the platform requires it, this is disclosed in the app’s store listing data-safety section.

What we do not collect

Children

Skyfield is a general-audience weather app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

You control location access in your device settings and can revoke it at any time (Skyfield will then rely on searched places). You can clear saved places and preferences by clearing the app’s data or uninstalling it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Skyfield after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
